Hi Friend,
This has been a pretty spectacular week! The weather in Oklahoma has cooled down enough for me to sit and work from my back porch. I’ve been in town all week, which won’t be the case for the next five weeks. Sarah and I got to go see Monica present at a two day event for the Chickasaw Nation. John spoke on the same night at Junior League event in town.
I told both of them, I wish I had someplace to speak, so all three of us were speaking on the same day. It was a very cool sensation for me. We just put this design in place this past year and we’re already seeing our imaginations come to fruition. This week has confirmed hope, which doesn’t always happen… especially within six months.
What is that called when hope becomes reality? It’s not accomplishment. Maybe fulfillment? It’s certainly satisfying. We’re obviously working towards those ends, but I didn’t know the feelings it would generate, when realized. Granted, Monica and John are powerful communicators, with brilliant messages and keen insight in their specialities. So really, it’s no surprise. It is extremely rewarding, however.
It makes me wonder what other things I should be hoping for? On top of the snazzy daily focus sheet I shared last week, my new biz coach suggests a 10-in-10. Ten things you hope to happen in ten years both professionally and personally. Actually he doesn’t “suggest” it. He has made it the FIRST THING he wanted me to do in his spreadsheet-packets-of-goodness.
Start With Hope!
It took me a few days to generate some thoughts. I came up with three things. Two days later seven more flowed out of me rather quickly. After a conversation with a close confidante three more appeared that really needed to be on the list. I wrote them down below the ten, then edited the list to move around which would be my true Top Ten.
I highly recommend the exercise. Also, if I keep telling you all the things this guy has me doing, you won’t need to hire a coach. Let me pay for it and pass it on to you. 🙂
The premise is, if both personally and professionally we start with the depths of our heart, even if it’s years away, there’s a much better chance we’re going to see them realized because of our consciousness about them.
What do you hope for?
It’s a worthwhile exploration concluding with concrete words on paper. The word “hope” itself feels a bit squishy. When people are “hoping” it seems to lack weightiness. Hope has an airiness vibe as if it’s out theresomewhere. What I appreciate about this approach, is that it makes hope foundational to all of our efforts. They aren’t goals and it’s not a bucket list. It fills a unique space determining direction and attention.
It’s apparent, hopelessness correlates with being aimless. I wonder if on a more surface level, being easily distracted or procrastinating is because those pursuits (or avoided activities) aren’t tethered to a root of hope in our hearts? Can you look around at the delayed stacks that need your attention and discover you have no hopein those areas?
How do we generate hope after the fact?
Instigating Ideas…
1. Create a 10-in-10 list.
2. What would bring you great delight if it transpired?
3. Encourage someone who is currently hoping for their dreams to come true.
4. If you have feelings of hopelessness, enlist someone’s help.
There must be a methodology to mapping every single incomplete task to an unrealized hope. Those that linger lack hope-association. When we get specific about our Top Ten Hopes, we may find that some of our procrastination is cured. I can’t testify yet, as I just finished my list this past week and still need to integrate weekly planning.
Having people like Sarah, Monica and John in my life make it much easier to hope for outcomes I wouldn’t on my own. It lessens the liability of risking such foolishness as to place hope at the foundation of all our enterprises. Good people are good for me.
I would love to hear how what you are hoping to do, be, achieve and accomplish in this life? How much of it is currently a work in progress, and how much of it is dormant awaiting attention? Please Share!
