Hi Friend
I know I say this regularly, but what an amazing week! Sunday I concluded my Mastermind gathering with a stroll on Clearwater Beach. On Tuesday we produced our last virtual conference of the year. Originally we were going to have go in at 4:30am to set up, run the whole show and then tear down. It was going to be a loooooooong day. Fortunately, we changed rooms which allowed for us to set up on Monday.
Thursday I had an IT Guy come to my house to go through my internet/router settings. I typically always feel like things are going toooooo slow. He “prioritized” devices on my network which sped things right up. Last night I got to go to the Thunder/Lakers game with a friend who had front row seats. I was courtside giving Lebron James several pointers.
I know you’re going to doubt me, but I promise you, multiple times the King locked eyes with me and stared. I mean, it could be because I was such an excellent chatterer from the sideline. (I know that’s a baseball term, but that’s the mode I fell into, being so close to the action). To be clear, I wasn’t harassing him. On the contrary, I invited him to hang out with me. I offered to be helpful. I encouraged him when he missed a shot. I felt like we connected. I think he did too.
Besides Lebron and I becoming best friends, the highlight of my week was Paul the IT Guy, which is kind of funny. From a beach to an NBA Game, what stands out most was a one hour visit from a tech dude. I’m sure you know how it is though. At just the wrong time the internet doesn’t seem to be working like it should.
Even though my Sonos system is set up on it’s own bridge, it’s still connected to my router, which apparently was getting a lot of love.
What’s Your Priority for 2022?
I didn’t need faster internet. I didn’t need new hardware. Everything I needed, I already had. I just didn’t know all the options available, or even such a thing existed. You can go inside the router software and say “Give these three items the most attention, please.” My laptop, phone and desktop are now getting the best speeds ever!
I can’t stop thinking about it. I know, I know. Duh. Allocating attention to specific items – prioritizing – changes the entire experience. Like you, I’ve been drifting into 2022 with my imagination. This is why Pauls visit resonates with me.
If I have everything I already need to bump results in a multiplied way, am I aware how to do it? One of my take-aways from the mastermind group was “Are you asking the right questions?”
TIME – ATTENTION – ENERGY
Those are the three factors that give priority its power. It sometimes feels like we just have to assess where we’ve been spending it and where we want to. However, that doesn’t always seem to stick.
You know I’m a big believer in habits and their capacity to alter our experiential existence. Inserting routines leverages our Time/Attention/Energy.
Lots of people try it. At the new year, they say “I’m going to prioritize my health.” For about three days they eat vegetables, then of course, return to their normal behavior.

Instigating Ideas…
1. Evaluate where you gave Time, Attention & Energy in 2021.
2. Ask someone “Besides family, what are your priorities?”
3. Priorities are not Goals. As you set goals, see how/if they align.
People say “show me where you spend your time and I’ll show you your priorities.” There is lots of truth in that. However, ignorance and lack of discipline can infiltrate our best aspirations. I’ve reset my router and modem so many times with no results. That wasn’t the issue. I wonder if we keep attempting certain things, not seeing results and blaming ourselves? When really we need to invite another person who knows what we don’t, into our life?
I’m doing my best to approach 2022 with as much self-honesty as I can. Evaluating first WHO I want to be, then with whom I want to spend time and finally what I DO. Granted Lebron may try to consume a lot of my time, because he’s needy like that. Thankfully committing to our priorities creates boundaries that prevent Time/Attention/Energy Suckers!
