I’m writing a little bit early this week. Saturday is my birthday and I thought I’d take the day off. Already this week has been some kind of wonderful. We continue with both consulting projects that are just so dang enjoyable. The people, the conversations, the process, the anticipation of outcomes… I love it all!
Honestly, life is so full at this moment, I haven’t had the chance to be as reflective as I normally am, ramping up to my birthday. I use it as a halfway marker for my year (since, well, we are, halfway through the year). I love contemplating what’s transpired this past trip around the sun. Where I was last year as a person and professional; how I’ve progressed, digressed and been altered in my existence.
One of the beauties of this weekly instigator is that it makes it easy to look back on my life this past year and see what all has transpired. It’s possible, I spent this past Saturday morning (from when you’re reading this) laying in bed, scrolling through the last year of my life.
I suspect I learned a few things. I hope I retained them.
If you’re new to reading my weekly letter, you may not know this, but those of my friends who have graciously skimmed through these recurring letters of mine, know how much I love Time! I might be Times biggest fan. I’m so grateful for the consistent construct he affords us to live our lives by. He’s so universally accepted as the most reliable asset we have on planet earth, we measure and identify every human life by him.
How Old Are You?
Don’t you love that question? At whatever age we are, we are certain it doesn’t fully encapsulate WHO we are! I love when people say “age is just a number.” HA! It is SOOOOOOOO much more than just a number!! Sure, it doesn’t reveal or define us in any way, but it most definitely suggests we’ve been give opportunities. The longer we’ve been alive the more we should have gleaned along the way.
Do you know someone who is “___________ for their age.” (Fill in the blank). It indicates that person has realized, acclimated or advanced within a shorter time-frame than most. TIME enables us to appreciate that about them.
The consistent, generous, reliable nature of Time is such a gift. Unfortunately most don’t fully appreciate it, until a loved one concludes their time on earth. Then it becomes precious and sacred. Particularly if you get to spend a few days or weeks with that person before the take their final bow. Then we cherish every second.
Not only am I writing earlier, I’m writing shorter. You’re welcome. My birthday gift to you.
As I turn 53, I am determined now more than ever to make the most of every day I’m given. I’m entirely grateful for the life and calling I get to steward and for the relationships that I’ve been entirely blessed with as gifts and responsibilities!
Today truly is the best day of my life!
I’m going to live it, love it and make the most of it!
